BAN OF EGGS AND EGG DERIVATIVE/RELATED PRODUCTS FROM CHINA AND PROXIMITY TERRITORIES Posted on: 16-06-2010 |
Following the reports of detection of contamination of eggs with melamine in China, Kenya Bureau of Standards has imposed a ban on the importation of eggs and other eggs related products from China and proximity territories with immediate effect.
The related eggs products will include noodles, mayonnaise, animal feeds and animal feed inputs.
This is in addition to the earlier announcement on the ban on milk and milk related products and strict surveillance on all food and foodstuffs from China and related countries.
This exercise will be in force until the affected products are proved to be free from the contaminants. |

Following a global alarm of milk and milk related products and foods from the People’s Republic of China and proximity territories, Kenya Bureau of Standards announces the following measures aimed at protecting the health and safety of Kenyans to take effect immediately:
All milk and milk related products from China and proximity territories have been banned from entering Kenya until further notice and review.
- All foodstuffs from China and proximity territories shall undergo 100% inspection in Kenya and the countries of origin before shipping.
- Foodstuffs and related products already in the Kenyan market outlets from China and proximity territories shall undergo surveillance to establish health and safety for our nationals and visitors.

BAN ON THE IMPORTATION AND SALE OF SUB-STANDARD DRY CELL BATTERIES Posted on: 17-06-2009 |
A Kenya Bureau of Standards market surveillance team has established that substandard dry cell batteries are still on sale despite earlier Public Notices.
Importers, Retailers and the General Public are notified that the following dry cell battery brands, which have paper casing, are banned from importation or sale in the Republic of Kenya.

| It is an offence under the Standards Act, Cap 496 of the laws of Kenya to import, offer for sale or sell the above batteries which have been found not to comply with the approved Kenya Standards. Consumers are advised to look for the Diamond Mark of Quality before making their purchases to ensure the safety of electronic equipment and a worthwhile quality purchase. If you come across these batteries in any retail outlet please report to the nearest Kenya Bureau of Standards office or seek the assistance of any law enforcement agency. The prohibition/ban is aimed at protecting unsuspecting consumers and discourage dumping of these products in the Kenyan Market.Hydroquinone, oxidizing agents and hormonal preparations are used for treating various medical conditions. They are therefore classified as drugs and should be applied only upon the advice and direction of a medical doctor.
All skin care preparations like creams, lotions, gels, soaps, etc containing hydroquinone, steroids and hormonal preparations should be registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of the Ministry of Health for medical use. Their use in cosmetics was prohibited through gazette notices 4310 of 14th August 1998 and 7169 of November 2000.
The Government wishes to state that the following products are registered with Pharmacy and Poisons Board to be used as human medicines for various skin conditions:

MEDIVEN
DIPROSONE
NERISONE
DERMOVATE
HYDROCORTISONE
0XY 5 AND 0XY 10
These products should only be used on the recommendation of a medical doctor and for such period of time as the doctor may prescribe. They should not be sold in the open market but only in registered pharmacies and chemists. Cosmetic products listed below contain hydroquinone, steroids, mercury and hydrogen peroxide. They have not been registered with Pharmacy and Poisons Board as medicines. They therefore, should NOT
