The metrology sales, marketing(Liaison) and QMS is a function that facilitates the smooth running of the primary laboratories in carrying out their mandate, that is ensuring traceability of measurements to International Standards, custody and maintenance of National measurement standards and dissemination (calibration) of the SI units of measurement. The function is the face of Metrology and the link to the customers.
The function oversees the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the quality management system which is according to ISO/IEC 17025-General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. The head of this function is also the Metrology Quality Manager.
The quality manager evaluates and puts measures in place that enable improvement of the quality system on a continuous basis. This includes planning and conducting quality audits and management review meetings.
All documentation pertaining to the QMS are prepared, maintained and updated regularly.
Relevant Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) are utilized.
All equipment to the primary laboratories from the customers are handled/ processed by this function. The customer equipment at the regions is handled by the metrology representatives there on behalf of this function.
All quotations, tenders, orders, invoicing, payments and reconciliation for calibration work are handled by or through this function.
Most metrology customer enquiries and complaints are also handled and resolved by this function. Other programmes/ projects are also undertaken by this function on behalf of the department e.g. customer care, automation of systems and consultancy/ training curriculums e.t.c.
The head of this function with assistance of several officers at the headquarters and in the regions does most of the marketing and customer feedback both positive and negative as required by ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9001.
The technical officers in this function also give relevant information and advice to our customers and stakeholders.
