About Standardization Mark

This scheme is mandatory and shall cover locally manufactured and imported products in accordance to section 10 of the Standards Act Cap 496, Laws of Kenya.
Application for grant/renewal of the standardization Mark permit shall be done using STA/2.

Timelines of application

Firms to continue registering and applying for the mark with a deadline of 1st October 2008 subject to reviews on the progress.
The marking process continues and the deadline for the application of the mark on the local products is 1st March 2009.

Stocks already in the shelves

Stocks/ products already in the shelves without the marks before the deadline will be treated as dead stock and will be allowed to sell out to exhaustion.

Fees for the Mark

All firms with less than 10 products/ brands will pay Ksh. 20,000 for the firm plus Kshs. 7,500 per product/ brand – all per year.
All firms with more than 10 products, brands will pay Kshs. 20,000 for the firms plus Kshs. 5,000 per product/ brand – all per year.
Jua kali, small and medium enterprises will pay the following per organization depending on their turnovers:
Kshs. 5,000 for turnover of Kshs. 0- 200,000
Kshs. 10,000 for turnover of Kshs. 200,000 – 500,000 and
Kshs. 20,000 for over Kshs. 500,000

Sectors with any unique marking problems

Sectors which may experience any unique marking problems during marking can discuss with KEBS officers sectoraly and if necessary, sectoral technical committees will be convened.
