Pressure & Vacuum Laboratory

Objectives and Tasks
Aims and Tasks of KEBS Pressure Laboratory can be summarised as follows.
1.         Custodian of the necessary primary standards for the realisation of the international (SI) pressure unit (Pa).
2          Performing calibration of different types of pressure measuring devices to establish the pressure scale in line with the national demands and to transfer it to the sub-level laboratories and to reach a measurement unity within the country.
3.         Giving training and advisory services depending on the demand coming from industry.
4.         Developing and maintaining new technical methods dealing with the establishment of the pressure scale in line with the national demands to contribute to scientific and technological improvement of Kenya.

AREAS OF HIGHLIGHT

Calibration Services;

The laboratory has a comprehensive range of national standards operating between pressures –1 to 4 x 108 Pa. Different types and ranges of pressure balances that utilises the technique based on applied force to the area and a set of secondary standard bourdon tube pressure gauges are used in calibrations as well as ensuring traceability.

Calibrations carried out at vacuum range between (-1 to 1 x105Pa gauge) utilising a vacuum gas balance

  1. Ordinary vacuum gauges.

Calibrations carried out at pressure range between (–1 to 4x108 Pa gauge);

  1. Pressure Balances
  2. Analogue and Digital Pressure Gauges
  3. Transducers
  4. Aneroid Barometers

Training Services:
The following services are available depending on demands

  1. Training on vacuum concepts and calibration vacuum gauges.
  2. Training on Calibration with Analogue and Digital Pressure Gauge.
  3. Training on Calibration of Pressure Balance.

FUTURE PLANS
The Pressure laboratory intends to acquire low and absolute pressure standards to serve an expanded clientele base.
